A few thousands of years ago, Africans migrated to the Americans as slaves. These black island peoples
Melanesians.
Initially, the name Melanesia was used by Jules Dumont d’ Urville back in 1832 to describe an ethnic
and geographical archipelago distinct from Polynesia and Micronesia.
There is a transformation during 2000 years. Current scientific evidence suggests that the cultural,
linguistic, and political fragmentation of Melanesians by the time of their arrival in Europe, representing
more than a dozen languages and cultures on a single island due to transformation during the previous 2000 years.
The Melanesian people of the Solomon Islands are interested in dark skin and blonde hair. Solomon
Islands is an independent state where are located in the South Pacific, Northeast of Australia, between
Papua and Vanuatu.
Although the indigenous Melanesian population of the island has the darkest skin outside of Africa.
And bright blonde hair has between 5-10 percent.
There are several theories as to why Melanesians got their blonde hair. Such as sun and salt whitening,
high fish intake, and genetic heritage from mixed breeding with Americans/ Europeans that founded the
islands.
A geneticist conducted a genetic analysis on saliva and hair samples from 1209 by comparing 43 blonde
islanders and 42 brown islanders. 26 percent of the island, population carried two copies of a mutant
gene. They have a native TYRP 1 gene that is partly responsible for blond hair. Melanin does not exist in
their genes. It is a recessive gene and is more common in children than adults.
There are now more than 1000 languages in Melanesia including Pidgin and creole from trade and
cultural interactions centuries before the European encounter. Christianity is the predominant religion
of many Missionaries throughout the region. But some people still practice their native religion.
The tropical region of Melanesia has some social problems such as alcoholism, and crime. Despite these
challenges, Melanesians are the happiest and friendliest people in the world with an exotic history.
