Bald eagles are unquestionably adept hunters. They can see a fish from a mile away and fly there in less than a minute.
Photographer, on the other hand, recently photographed a particularly spectacular instance of stealing. He witnessed a bald eagle snatching a rabbit from a juvenile red fox. Even more impressive: this duel took place more than 20 feet in the air at points.
It happened when He was photographing foxes at San Juan Island National Historical Park in Washington state.
They began hunting shortly before dusk. One fox was successful in capturing a rabbit’s foot. Several kits after it, but it made it back to its den to feed.
A red fox had captured a rabbit and was taking it across the meadow some 15 minutes later.
Don’t worry, the fox was unharmed. The entire combat lasted less than 8 seconds.
