Tragic Loss: Australian Man Dies After Brain Hemorrhage in Bali | Gofundme Raises $204k

An Australian man, Raj Jayarajah, has sadly passed away in a Melbourne hospital after being medically evacuated from Bali due to a brain hemorrhage. The incident occurred on June 30 while Raj was in a Nusa Dua villa with his eight-year-old son, Ari. He suffered a seizure and collapsed, leading to emergency brain surgery. In order to receive life-saving treatment in Australia, Raj was placed in an induced coma until his family could arrange a Life Flight.

On July 6, Raj, along with his wife Emma and son Ari, was flown back to Melbourne. Tragically, Raj’s friend Andrew MacQueen, who was vacationing with the family in Bali, shared the heartbreaking news of Raj’s passing on Sunday. MacQueen updated the GoFundMe page, expressing deep sadness and informing the supporters, “We are so sad to let you know that Raj passed away today.”

Upon his arrival in Melbourne, Raj was immediately admitted to the Alfred Intensive Care Unit, where doctors conducted tests that confirmed his condition. Unfortunately, the medical team informed the family that nothing more could be done to save him. Raj’s family and close friends gathered by his bedside to bid him farewell, and they now face the challenging process of mourning his loss.

Over the past nine days, the family has endured a series of distressing events. Raj’s mother, sister, brother-in-law, and nieces were also in Bali during the incident. However, due to insurance company delays, the family had to bear the cost of the medical evacuation flight themselves, amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars. After Andrew MacQueen launched a GoFundMe campaign, generous donations poured in, amassing nearly $204,000. This outpouring of support occurred prior to the insurance company’s decision to reimburse the family for their incurred expenses.

In a recent update, MacQueen confirmed that the family’s travel insurer had agreed to cover the cost of repatriation, medical expenses incurred in Bali, and other related travel costs. He expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported and donated, saying, “We thank everyone for their interest, and the donations have been outstanding and unbelievable. We are so thankful.”

As the family mourns the loss of Raj at such a young age, their friends, community, and those touched by their story continue to offer support and comfort during this difficult time.
